Hawaii Kai Golf Course circumnavigate

Last night weather was horrible. In fact owner of restaurant where I ate dinner complained rest. was deserted because of the weather. So perfunctorily set alarm at 7:30, and sure enough, never heard the alarm, and woke up at 9.

As Murphy's law states, whenever you oversleep, weather's gonna be gorgeous. Well, not quite, the sky was about half blue, wind subsided a little, rain almost stopped. Would not be a horrible day for hiking, heckava lot better than last night.

Considered going to K2/Olympus-Castle, but there was too little time, would only be able to spend 1-2 hours. Maybe go up Kamiloiki.

As I drove towards Hawaii Kai, changed my mind. Golf Course has jeep road that wraps around the whole valley. I went down east side before, Richard McMahon wrote about the west side road, and Dayle did it yesterday (but abandoned it to go to the ridgetop). I decided to check it out.

Went in at the end of Mokuhano, into the Course, then schlepped left behind the nest (supposed to prevent golf balls from hitting you, but mostly down). Went up the jeep road, much more cleared than east side, trampled down recently (not doubt from Dayle's tonnage).

Road forks, ribbon says up. So went up, and it goes to the "lava flow" path higher up than the one that goes on to wrap around the east side. According to "Volcanoes in the Sea", which I read in 1983, Kalama valley was the site of the last lava eruption on Oahu, possibly only a few thousand years ago. This may be it! More likely not, the lava does not look that new.

Fooled around and came down to the east side road, and had lunch at a pile of rocks with a view of the golf course below.
